I feel like I grow more and more each day with ideas I want to bring to YOU, my reader. I love love love rackin my brain for new ways to use something uncoventionally or just plain different. I enjoy coming up with ideas that could or could not be accepted as interesting or just plain pretty, this next post is definately a gamble!
That being said…enter the “Indutrial Chic Shoot”
I absolutely adore how this came together… I started on an aisle at Lowe’s, the aisle with the pipe fittings, and you better believe I had a taper candle in my purse ready and waiting to measure for the correct size of pipe to put together a couple of candlesticks!
After several minutes of digging through those small boxes to find the perfect pieces to fit together, my candlesticks were two things…custom and unique!
After the the piping aisle…I skipped on over to lumber area (bet your wondering if I really skipped) There I found 3.5 inch by 4ft planks of wood, I actually laid them out on the ground to figure out the width I wanted because I wanted to build the table top…I knew that I wanted to “beat up” the wood and then stain it, but I still needed some kind of metal to be incorporated for that “industrial” story I wanted to tell…so from the lumber section, I found the aisle with the galvenized metal sheets which also had some metal brackets of sorts, that I would use metal screws and secure the ends fastening the pieces of wood together lenthwise…
For the legs of the table, I wanted metal sawhorses, which would most definately attribute to my “outside the box” look…
To accompany the table set-up I wanted to have something incorporating chalkboard paint! I have always wanted an excuse to buy some! For the “seating chart” I took a piece of plywood 2ft X 4ft and simply painted it with chalkboard paint (FYI the paint is not cheap!) After several coats and drying time, I needed a frame, just simple pieces of wood I cute the edges down and secured with the same heavy bulky screws as the table!
For the floral “containers” I found some silver paint cans and air conditioning ducts like $3 a piece!
To tie in with the chalkboard seating chart, I painted some wood chargers with the paint and wrote a “guest” name and topped with a clear glass plate, the glasses also incorporated the same paint!
Below are some more of my favorites from Allen’s beautiful photography!
Below are my snapsnots in “creating” phase!

Hope you have enjoyed a different way to look at ordinary objects, I hope the next time you head to your favorite home improvemement store you get a little spark of creativity!
I met Jessica from one of my former brides, Samantha. From our first meeting at Starbucks, I knew Jessica would be a blast to work with. I quickly became very excited about ideas on feathers and the chic color palette of black and white…
Jessica and Ryan decided they wanted to have their ceremony and reception on their family’s land; a piece of land that would ultimately take months to prepare but would end up being the perfect scene for a perfect wedding for a perfect couple…
We made several visits to the land in the months before the big day picking out just the perfect spot for the ceremony, we settled on a section of ground where the trees created a sort of canopy over where the vows would be made.
I really really loved the simpleness of how the tree limbs spread out and intertwined with another…That being said Jessica agreed on minimal decor due to the true beauty of Mother Nature, so the only decor needed was 5 chandeliers hanging from the trees that I had sprayed black and made a chaincover for…two white columns with two black feather arrangements…
For the aisle I took pieces of father boa wrapped around the sheppard hook several times and secured in place on top of a sheer black ribbon “roping off” the aisle. How good do those sheppard hooks look? The groom (Ryan) welded them! I was so impressed!
The bridal party arrived in style in a white limo, but the beautiful bride pulled up in an exquisite Rolls Royce, simply stunning…
After the ceremony, guests would come to a beautiful draped tent, with romantic lighting, simple black linens I had shipped from New York, and florals done by the bride’s aunt.
The cake tables were a lot of fun to decorate. I used a black pintuck also from NYC for the bride’s cake. The backdrop I sewed curtain panels from a fun eyelash fabric and sprayed 3 2-dimensional chandeliers white that I attached the panels, creating a one-of-a-kind backdrop.
For the groom’s cake table I draped he table in the same black eyelash fabric, and we also incorporated a candy bar and a simple casino theme into the decor. I made the sign for table with inspiration from the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign! I used feathers for height and to tie in with the ceremony decor.
Here’s a few more of my favorites!
As you know, I am not a photographer! The pictures above are just my snapshots! Jessica Hicks with J.Hicks Photography was Jessica and Ryan’s photographer, so stayed tuned for her images!
Hey yall! What a beautiful Sunday afternoon today huh?!
Since I am school for Interior Design, and will ultimately be incorporating that into my business one day professionally, I wanted to share with yall my new dining room project.
I am so so proud of this space, primarily because I actually have color! The funny thing is that those that know me know Im quite “colorful”, you really dont know what idea will come out of my mouth next…however our house is completely and totally BEIGE! Our walls are beige, our furniture is beige, our flooring is a dark espresso (or a really dark beige!), our window treatments are mostly beige…It’s quite comical actually! Lately I have begun to feel trapped in “safe” zone and have had no idea how to get out of it!
until… I found the most beautiful shabby chic buffet at an antique store in Galveston. We have established in prvious posts I have become quite obsessed with vintage and antique. So when I found the buffet waaay in the back of the store buried under countless “nicknacks” I knew that piece was headin home with me, and would be what I designed our entire room around!
From that buffet I began to search for the perfect ways to accent it. I knew I wanted to cover our main wall in fabric, just finding the perfect print proved to be a several hour long venture. I knew what I wanted but I didnt know exactly what I wanted to look like…if that makes any sense at all! I finally came across a beautiful linen with an aqua damask pattern (although the background is beige!) When we got it home, it matched perfectly with our wall color which would be flanking the main wall, and thats how I knew it was meant to be!
I wanted to keep our dining room light and airy, we layed our dark espresso wood flooring ourselves a couple of years ago, and I never thought to paint our dining table which is the same color as the floor so it really gets “lost”.
A couple of weeks ago I started thinking I wanted a new table, but Im super cheap and I did not want to get rid of our table. I bought it way before we got married when I moved into my first apartment so I guess Im just sentimental with it plus its the perfect size for our small dining room. Long story short, I thought hmm…what if I make it look like our new buffet?!
So I started searching for “distressing” instructions, and actually had a friend who referred me to a website out of Houston who teaches classes…thankfully she had written an e-book on each step of the process so I purchased the how-to and made my way to Home Depot! (one of my very favorite stores!)
Because the fabric didnt quite reach the eadges of the wall due to the excess waste of matching up the pattern, I had wall exposed. Started thinking about how to fix it, I found the widest molding in stock (6inches) and we “framed” out the accent wall. I also got a thinner more decorative traim as well…
Once we got the bigger molding up we ran into angle problems with the decorative molding, so my husband suggested using the decorative corner pieces for the corners. Due to the slanted ceiling the top molding could not lay flat. GENIOUS idea, especially since those decorative pieces are already on the doors in the dining room!
Time to start putting it back together again! I added white sheers on our french doors for texture!
So now that Ive only given you little tid-bits of the finished product heres a nod to the before…blah and beige…
and heres my “after” light and dreamy, and I can seriously just stare at my latest project for hours in absolute accomplishmentness (its my new word, Ill make sure its in the dictionary by next year!)
Thanks for visiting! Hope yall enjoyed!
hey yall! Last weekend was a HUGE success, I pushed myself more than I had in past wedding shows, this being my third I felt like a veteran! I get to work with some amazing vendors, who are all so supportive. Ashley, the owner of www.southeasttexasweddings.com, had an incredible amount of growth vendor wise and was able to add more space to the show layout, giving us vendors room to spread out and really showcase what we can offer brides! Below, are my steps in making for one super fabulous display of what I can offer brides!

Getting started! My mom and Grandma came in from Tyler and Longview to help, along with my studmuffin of a husband who came right after work!Team Whimsical!
I bought an old window hung that from my backdrop along with crystal garland for a little bit of glam.
Used two chair that I covered in a beautiful dark teal damask printed velvet, paired with two ghost chairs and I made a sash topped off with a rhinestone brooch to go around the back that matched the antique chairs.
Wanted to offer a drawing for guests, where they voted on their favorite arrangment, I had a very simple look short arrangement consisting of all roses, a medium arrangment in milk glass with a mixture of floral more vintage look, and a tall arrangement of hydrangeas and calla lillies for a more modern look! 3 Beautiful options, which one appeals to you?!
I also had a blast participating in an “idea gallery” table! Heres what I designed and sent to a few other vendors who participated as well!
Here’s our finished product!
Sarah e. Evans Photography provided “outdoorsy” images of a fun couple
Dressy Designs provided stationary, name cards, favors, table number
Beaumont Catering Company provided vegetabel tray and granola!
I think our table turned out AMAZING, and offered something different to brides as far as options to personalzie their big day!
Afternoon yall!
This past sunday my super cool friend Sarah with Sarah e. Evans Photography shot our perfect “Simply Southern” styled shoot! We have had it planned for many weeks, but as day after day went on I thought my head would explode from pure southern belle-ness! (pretty sure I just made up a new word!) Anyway, if you could possibly get a peek of how many messages we sent back and forth to each other, you would think I was crazy! I love working with bride’s and making their dreams come to life, BUT theres something just plain fun about designing an entire look from my own ideas, and not needing to ask my client if its what they want! It’s what I want in a sense that what I want is to bring fresh new ideas to YOU! I went with a peach color pallete, all because of one peach chair that was in my childhood home! From that single chair I specifically picked my fabrics, flowers and accessories to compliment that one fun chair!
Heres my styleboard I put together! Sarah had the most awesome idea of incorporating other vendors we work with, so I submitted it to them to be inspired for whatever they wanted to come up with.
We had beautiful stationary and other accessories provided by K& K Designs- It’s a Hit Events! They completely exceeded my expectations. The cake we had designed by This Cake’s For You- Dena McClendon, and she went off of the milk glass. Beaumont Catering Company provided two of our desserts, peach cobbler and pecan pie, and let me use a beautiful beverage urn to hold some sweet iced provided by my sweet husband General Manager of the BEST restaurant around, McAlister’s Deli! My mom brought down from Tyler with her, piece after piece of beautiful vintage dishes, and spectacular pieces of milk glass! She also made the banana pudding, and her van was transport central! Sarah had the dresses and jewelry for our “bride” and I picked up other accessories for a “groom”!
Thank the Lord that it worked out for my mom to come down to visit for a few days, because she was the main transportation, of all things pretty, in the back of her van! Theres a full size dining table, and rolling table of sorts (that was quite heavy!), a Louis chair, the inspirational peach wing back chair, and a white ladderback chair that I white washed! Oh and ALL the arrangements that I made fresh about an hour before loading up! That was tricky packing them so the milk glass wouldnt break or the fresh flowers wouldn’t get squashed! Lots and lots of towels between the pieces my friends!
My car was also loaded with two more chairs I covered with a complimentary fabric, extra floral, and boxes of accessories for the tables, and our models!
Heres a picture of the craziness! If you add a little glitter and a few rhinestones this is what the inside of my head looks like! Plus there was more!
Our beautiful couple, and Sarah’s trying to secure the dress!
My mom and I at around 945 that night at hubby’s restaurant, I hadnt eaten since early that morning! I was famished!
Sarah is currently working on editing, and other projects with the photos! She is waiting to release them for a few weeks! We both can NOT wait to show yall our work! In the mean time check out her blog www.saraheevansphotography.com and tell her I sent ya!
I wanted to post about our treasure hunt! Last weekend I had a judging assignment for America Dance/Drill Team in Galveston for the Moody Gardens Festival, where I was one of several judging several AMAZING dance teams and solo routines.
I had not really explored Galveston beach as far as antiques quite yet, so I decided to arrive a few hours early to check out a few places I had googled…I found the stores I had found with my search and found a few items to use in some pictures, BUT with still about an hour to kill I began driving around downtown and came across a building with the words “Antique Warehouse” handpainted across the side of a huge building…. ERRCKK…(those were my tires!) I whipped a U-turn and parked right beside the building… walked in…and OH MAN, before my eyes was literally a WAREHOUSE of all things dirty, old and probably junk to a lot of people!
We finally arrived on the island, and made it to the warehouse…and guess what…it was CLOSED!! on a tuesday? seriously! I was sooo upset! BUT, I knew I wasn’t going to let the whole trip be a total waste, so we decided to explore Galveston downtown…As many times as I have been to the island, I never realized the rich history that it has. The magnificent homes, the elaborate carvings and stonework, I literally had to make sure I wasn’t drooling! I guess its because I am beginning to learn about the different architecture styles and design periods throughout history…These homes and monuments have withstood insane hurricanes when newer homes were completely lost. It amazes me the craftsmanship that went into building and creating such pieces of art.
Mom and I browsed through several antique stores and found amazing items, we also brainstormed on more ideas for future shoots, about 2 hours into our tour, we were famished! We decided on a sweet little place, called the Gumbo Bar, we were both kind of craving gumbo, so what better place?! We had their chicken and sausage gumbo, and yes it was delish! If you are ever in Galveston , you will have to check them out!
The last place we stumbled upon was a smaller store, but as we walked through, there was a piece of furniture screamin my name! It is a vintage distressed buffet! BEAUTIFUL! After a few texts back and forth with the hubby and talking down the owner on the price, we loaded it up and brought it home! Luckily its for our house! I finally have a project for our house to redecorate and incorporate it into our dining room! Cant wait to share with yall!
As disappointed as I was about the single place I anticipated going to was closed, the day turned out AMAZING! Had a great time with my mom, just strolling through the stores, and purchasing a few key pieces for some shoots, and of course my first piece of vintage furniture to use in my house!
As much as I would love to show you my treasures I found, I have to keep somethings secret! you’ll have to check back for the photoshoots!!
Y’all come back now!
Afternoon yall!
As I have explained I have become obsessed with anything vintage…while rummaging through one of my favorite antique stores, I noticed a beautiful chair behind the desk! I freaked (of course) and asked “HOW MUCH IS THAT?!!!” the owner said “umm..I can do like $50 for it”, so of course I pulled out my card and asked where do I sign?!
After getting it home I became aware of why it was so inexpensive, it was very stained but most importantly the crest rail at the top of the woodframe had been broken off! Howver I knew to look past that, as well as the aged and worn upholstery fabric. I also thought that was probably why it was beind the counter and why it hadnt been priced yet, the owners of the store were probably going to turn it into a project of their own before putting it out on the floor to sell!
Long story short, I got a few cans of paint stripper, my hand sander, new paint and new fabric, and made it over for for my first reupholstering project! I have refinished several pieces as well as covered chair cushions which are quite easy, but this one was quite a bit more labor intensive, but I love love love how it turned out!
Below, Im are the steps!
It had a horrible yellowed almost laquer, but it was cracking with odd accents of gold and light blue in some of the carving!
You can see where I had started stripping the paint off, had to remove and the fabric and cushions…took note of how it was pieced together so I could remember how it to get it back to its former glory!
Had to pull out hundreds of old staples!!
After getting all the carving cleaned out with paint stripper and the end of some scissors, I painted the wood white, and secured the padding in and began to staple the BEAUTIFUL white silk dupioni my mom picked up for me in Tyler (I couldnt find any here!)
Once stapled in I trimmed the fabric as close to the staples as possible!
My chair is done!!
A close up of the trim, finsihing off and covering the staples!
Now, You think you’re ready to reupholster a piece?! It’s so fun, a lot of work, but rewarding to see what you accomplished! Be on the look out for this to be featured in our upcoming photoshoot with Sarah e. Evans Photography!!
Hey everyone!
While I was browsing for new wedding magazines at Barnes and Noble I came across a blogging magazine, it immeditately caught my eye, and I was intrigued. I am still new to blogging, but it seems easy for me to pour out words from my crazy idea filled head in text form…my poor husband tries to listen and picture what I try to explain to him when Im practically screaming with excitement from what Im invisioning in my own head!
I am also going to start sharing with yall what I am currently working on, in my business and personal life. I want you, my reader, to be so engaged in what I am bringing to the table that you dont want to stop pouring over my pictures, as I do myself on other blogs! I want to bring you fresh ideas, and push myself harder than I ever have to achieve this!
In this magazine, the various different authors blog about everything from junky finds at a flea market, to actual art work. I am now compelled to share my new love for vintage and “other people’s trash” with you, how beautiful a rusty old piece of silverware can be if its paired with the right other accessories. This is what I find so funny…growing up I never liked antiques, garage sales, none of it…I was blind to the simple principle of “repurpose”…I have done my house very modern, clean lines, etc…BUT within the past 3-4 months I have literally become OBSESSED with anything vintage, rusty, tattered, and paint peeled. I literally can not sit still just thinking of more and more ideas as I sit here and type this post! How crazy is that?!
It’s so funny how you think you know exactly what you want to do, and even though that one idea can branch off into many different avenues, it only takes maybe looking at one magazine or reading one article, and you start asking yourself, is that the direction I want to go?
So, I hope youre up for taggin along on my journey as I find out exactly what God has planned for me, I hope I am on the right track, I truly feel like I am getting there… but get ready its about to get CRAZY!!! You in?!
I love love love fabric, any kind…I could literally live a fabric store! I also love damask print fabric… I have several different styles and colors used thorughout my house! When I saw this black and White damask linen at Occasions in Nederland, I knew I had to use to a table setting! I made the candle holder with a whole bunch of red roses, and wired in some crystals, for a little bling action! I had also found the glass balls a while back and could not wait for the perfect setting to use them! I hung them with fishing line and everyone who has seen these pictures says they look like bubbles! I love how Allen captured these photos! Enjoy!
Thanks Allen for your beautiful pictures, Occasions for your amazing linen, and The Neches Room for letting us borrow your beautiful room!!
